Bedtime Story – Nora and Clamshells

bedtime story

“Grandpa, please set the alarm at 5.30 in the morning. I want to see the sunrise. “

“Sure Nora, Good night.”

Nora was staying with her grandparents this summer who lived near to the sea.

Nora couldn’t sleep well. The thought that she might miss the alarm somehow made her wake up on the first ring.

“Grandma, shall I take the cloth bag with the picture of water lilies on it, to collect shells from the beach?”

“Yes, Nora. Come let’s go, it’s time. We don’t want to miss the sunrise.”

Nora loved the feeling of golden rays of sun falling on her face.

“Grandpa, let’s walk towards the other end, I want to pick up shells.”

“You know Nora, little creatures lived in these shells. They are called clams. And they make pearls.

One day you may find a clam with a lovely pearl inside if you are lucky.” Grandma smiled.

Nora’s cloth bag was almost full. They sat on the shore gazing at the waves.

“Grandma, did you get one? “

“Got what, Nora?”

“A clamshell with a pearl inside? “

“No dear. But I have experienced another wonder. If you keep a conch shell close to your ear, you can listen to the music of the sea.”

“Oh Grandma, I would love to hear that.”

“Come, let’s go home then. I have one with me, you can have it if you want.”

“Thank you so much, Grandma and to you too, Grandpa.”

Nora hugged her grandparents tightly and planted a kiss on their cheeks.
